Young Breast Cancer Your Story and Mine: A Compact Guide
Hey! On March 18th, 2025 my four-year project — Young Breast Cancer Your Story and Mine was born. After overcoming imposter syndrome, low self confidence, and dealing with writing while having untreated ADHD, after writing a 10 page book proposal, and a vetted Query letter, after connecting with authors I know and their agents, after rejections, I decided that too much time had gone by to wait anymore and I self-published this resource I needed in the voice that would have helped me through the company BookBaby.
I went through BookBaby because I wanted the book to not get lost, I wanted it to be a resource that people who might benefit from it could find it. Many of you helped me by pre-ordering it, by writing early reviews, and still big box Amazon and Barnes and Noble aren’t impressed by my smallness, so it is already hard to come by on those sites. The best place to quickly buy and receive my book will always be the BookBaby Bookshop but again it is print on demand everywhere else, even local bookstores, just might take a smidge longer to receive.
There is some good news though, the book is print on demand, and if you want to help me with it’s availability, you can!!
Ways to help:
fill out this sponsorship form where you can donate money so that I can donate books, or you can donate books directly by contacting me at erinleeperkins@gmail.com I want to help you get a good price if you are buying in bulk, and I want to keep track of where the books are going and keep replenishing them. The form has a place to say if you have an idea of where the books should go.
you can go to your library’s website and request that the book be carried there! please email me if you want to do this, and run into any trouble. It is already in the Seattle public library (thanks to my friend Hannah), and I need to check still if Wake county (where I live) worked.
you can go to local bookstores wherever you are and tell them about my book. Tell them it is published through BookBaby, it is on Ingram, and it is print on demand, so as long as the bookstore sees a button when they try to order it on Ingram, it will work, it just might say that it is backordered (backordered is another word for print on demand). Again, reach out if you have problems!
please let me know if you know a place I can donate the books to, even if you can’t donate the money or the books, having ideas of where to send them is also SO GREAT. Think cancer centers, cancer resource libraries, organizations that may be interested in having a book like mine in chemo boxes, etc!
if you have my book, and you like it, can you review it on amazon, storygraph, goodreads, barnes and noble, or anywhere.
can you share my book on social media, and tell people about my new book donation sponsorship program?
do you have other ideas? write them in the comments or send me an email.
Here is a flyer you can probably save and print to share with places that may want to know more before they say yes.
last note, if you know places I can make a few bucks writing or whatever kind of thing, I’d like to earn some cash to buy a few things so that I can record this as an audiobook. Someone I met at YSC summit in Atlanta this year suggested it, and I really think it is important for folks in the community who may need it.
